Świat na rozdrożu
The world at the crossroads
Course coordinators: Wiktor Kotowski, Barbara Pietrzak
We live in times of unprecedented change. We witness acceleration of so many processes, scientists proposed we are in a new epoch now – the Anthropocene. Many researchers also say that with our growing influence on global processes we might be crossing serious planetary boundaries right now – surpassing lines beyond which there might be no return to the planet we grew up on as a species. During the course students are asked to watch selected important films showing the world at the crossroads. Each of the ten meetings is focused on a different issue – from climate change through biodiversity disintegration to societal transformations – which we discuss after students have watched the film. We may invite experts in the particular field to join the discussion.
This year we have watched so far:
“Watching the End of the World” written & presented by Prof David Kipping (2020)
“The Story of Stuff” written by Annie Leonard & directed by Louis Fox (2007)
“Symbiotic Earth: How Lynn Margulis rocked the boat and started a scientific revolution” directed by John Feldman (2019)
